Mission Statement
Over the past two years, I’ve been thinking about ways to use creative hobbies, like cosplay, to give back to society. I love to cosplay, and I love looking at amazing cosplay, but I have to admit that I often feel guilty about enjoying such hobbies when there are so many people in the world who don’t even have access to food, clean water, shelter, clothing, education, and basic human rights.
But I don’t think giving up our hobbies out of guilt is the answer. We’re meant to enjoy life, and it would be a waste to live a life of guilt and unhappiness just because we were born into (or worked our way into) privilege. Our privilege also gives us great power and influence. We can start and spread ideas through the internet, we have the health and energy to build and create. I want to think of ways that we can utilize the power of our privilege and hobbies to give back. My first idea was this cosplay calendar project.
Thank you to all of the cosplayers, photographers, and other artists from around theglobe who helped make this project a reality. These artists generously donated theirtime and skills in order to be a part of this project. It is my hope that, with the help ofartists like these, I can continue to find ways to use beautiful art forms, like cosplay, tohelp support the planet, the global community, and individuals for whom art iself is anunattainable luxury.
